Call for Papers: 2017 Conference on Applied Modeling in Acute Care

April 20-21 University of Twente, The Netherlands

The objective of this one and a half day international conference is to review the state of the art in modeling and simulation (M&S) of human physiology. The theme of the conference is “Reuse, Reduce, Recycle”. Many physiologic models, especially the more complex integrated ones, are only used by their original, mostly academic developers, and thus their potential impact on research and healthcare practice is limited. Also in our community, applying the three R’s would be an excellent way of getting more out of limited available resources. Recycling requires ethics and rules. Some of those are well-known: Open access publication, and open source model code, for example. We propose conference participants to reflect on the role of these in their own work, and on setting standards for sharable model description and validation.
